Twenty years ago, one of my favorite movies about a writer was filmed.
This weekend, I’m going to watch it again after not seeing it for a long time. I haven’t been able to go to the movie theatre in person all year because of COVID-19, so I’ve been streaming movies every weekend.
I decided I’m going to watch Finding Forrester this weekend. It stars Sean Connery and Rob Brown. Connery plays a famous, albeit fictitious, writer who had become a recluse. Reluctantly, he mentors a young man very different from him in writing and in life. The young man teaches the curmudgeon writer some things about living as well.
Finding Forrester is filled with great quotes about the writing craft. Here’s my favorite:
“No thinking – that comes later. You must write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is… to write, not to think!”
Sir Sean Connery, Finding Forrester
Here are some more quotes from the movie.
Definitely looking forward to watching it this weekend.
