NaNoWriMo Day 28: Over the finish line

I wrote the last 2800 words yesterday and reach 50K. I won NaNoWriMo 2022!

My project is called Normous, and it’s a novella. It is the fifth episode in my series I call Consortium. In my blog posts throughout this month, I described how I outlined Normous in three steps, and then spent the rest of NaNo writing full-blown scenes. The story is thoroughly thought out in my mind, but I still have plenty of scenes to complete to get the first draft.

I really like this place where I’m at. From the beginning, I realized I never really tried to keep the habits I develop during NaNoWriMo during the rest of the year. The habit I want to incorporate into my non-NaNo life is to write 500 words every morning before I go to work. Or write for a half an hour (I can write about 500 words in 30 minutes, so they’re the same thing.). Pretty much every morning that’s what I’m going to do.

Of course, I’m going to write in the afternoons after work, but sometimes life gets in the way. So, throughout December, my goal is to create the habit of getting up and writing 500 words before work.

To “win” NaNoWriMo, I had to write 50 thousand words. But, in my opinion, anyone who participates in NaNoWriMo wins when they learn what works for their writing process.

Have a good week.
