As I plan and write scenes, one thing I do is what I call the ‘outside’ action and also the ‘inside’ action. During Preptober, I created an Excel spreadsheet and wrote the point of view from each character in that scene. This point of view plans out the physical action each character performs (outside action). Then I consider the internal emotions of each character in that scene (inside action).
I’ve never done this before, but it really helped write the scene during NaNoWriMo. Here’s a visual:
This is just for a few early scenes, but I did this for the whole story and it has made writing NaNoWriMo go faster. It’s an exercise I plan to do for now on.
