My writing process for NaNoWriMo 2022:
- Step 1: Write one complete sentence summarizing each scene
- Step 2: Turn each sentence into a five sentence paragraph.
- Step 3: Turn each paragraph into five paragraphs. (I’m writing step 3 in red to help it stick out)
- Step 4: Turn the five paragraphs into a narrative (Not started yet.)
I am working on two novellas for NaNoWriMo 2022, but to be honest, I will only get through one of them. I will reach 50,000 words by the end of November, but I will probably only end up with a rough draft of one of them which is called Normous.
Still in step 3 of Normous. I will probably be done with that by the end of this week or early next week. If I can finish step three by the half-way point, that is the 15th, then I feel good about that.
But even if I don’t start step 4 around or before the 15th, that’s still okay. One of the things I’m taking away from this year’s NaNo is how well this four step writing process works for me. I can see me developing my future WIPs this way. By the time I reach step four, I’ve gone over the story three times already, each time in more detail, so that by step four, I am salivating to start the real writing. Most people start with step four, and that’s okay. But for me, this method just makes more sense.
Step four is the narrative, the storytelling, the show don’t tell stage. I can’t wait to get there.
If you are doing NaNoWriMo this year, you are in my best wishes.
