Renegades by Marissa Meyer. The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I started all of these books earlier this year and I still haven’t finished them. Why? I’ve been writing, writing, and writing.
For the first three or four months of 2022, I concentrated on finishing my novella Traption. It took longer than expected, but I learned so much as I revised it. Then, for the past month, I’ve been participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. I worked on three WIPs at once. I gained some experience in navigating three WIPs at once.
The only thing I’ve actually read lately is my own manuscript for Traption. I mean I love the books I mentioned above, but I’ve just gotten out of the habit.
I miss reading and I’m trying to get back into the habit of doing it on a daily basis. I need to be more deliberate about reading. With a full time job, errands, running a house and my writing projects, reading can get shoved aside.
I’m trying to get back into it by reading for 30 minutes a night, right after writing. Habit stacking. We’ll see how it goes. By the end of August, I will be reading regularly again.
