This week I have been doing a “hands off read through” of my novella Traption. No reworking scenes, no editing paragraphs, no tweaking words; just reading through this draft I completed during Camp NaNoWriMo in April. Hands off the words.
Some of the things I’m looking for:
- Does my story have a solid structure?
- Does my hero have clear goals and believable motivations throughout the story?
- Does my story have enough conflict?
- Am I revealing information in an engaging way?
- Does my hero transform?
This is one of the early steps for the level down method of editing, a course I’m still going through on the Writing Mastery Academy website.
I’ve mentioned this website before, as well as the free preview video found on NaNoWriMo’s YouTube channel. Even if a writer uses only the few concepts mentioned on the video (there are lot more when you subscribe to the Writing Mastery Academy.), he or she will benefit.
