My Favorite SF&F Shows, Part 1

There’s a lot of good science fiction and fantasy series right now. And there is some not so good stuff. In the spirit of the holiday season, I’m going to remain positive and list some speculative fiction streaming series I’ve enjoyed over the past year or so. If you haven’t seen some of these, I highly recommend them.

The Expanse

The fourth season of this show was just released on Amazon Prime, this show’s new home. I spent the weekend binge-watching it instead of writing. I’ve been reading The Expanse books for the last several years and I love both the books and the show.

The Mandalorian

As a Christmas present to myself this year, I went ahead and subscribed to Disney+ for a year. As a Star Wars veteran who watched the first movie many moons ago in a galaxy far away, I have found The Mandalorian to be a real treat. Something the whole family can watch together.

The Man in the High Castle

I’ve never read the book by Philip K. Dick (author of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, aka Blade Runner), but my understanding is that the book and the series are different in many ways. The concept of the Allies losing the Second World War and the United States being ruled by Germany and Japan fascinated me. The complete four-season series is available on Amazon Prime.

Lost in Space

This show has a special place in my heart because I loved the original series when I was a kid. This reimagined version on Netflix is much better than the movie from the 90s. Season two will be released December 24th.

The OA

If you’re in the mood for something different, try this show on Netflix. The OA explores the concept of alternate realities, but what is great about this series is how they get from one reality to another. Caveate: the series ends on a cliffhanger, but it’s still worth checking out.

Part 2: I’m continuing my list in a couple days.
