Before I read through a draft of a manuscript, I turn the words red in Word and turn them black as I comb through each paragraph, making initial changes along the way. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
Benefits of this method:
- Helps the writer keep track of where he left off
- Helps the writer see how much he has done for that day
- Helps the writer see how much he has left to finish
- Helps the writer concentrate on writing style
- It’s easy.
This method of editing is best for having a finished, early draft. Other forms of editing, rewriting and revising may need to take place, but this method helps keep me motivated. Hope you find it helpful.
