As I plan my reading list for 2016, I want to include several self-published writers and small, independent publishing companies. So far I plan to read the following:
- Storming: A Dieselpunk Adventure by K.M. Weiland
Read her novel Dreamlander last year and loved it. She also has great books for fiction writers and a blog for writers that is a bank vault of valuable tips. - Strange World Stories by Hank Quense
I’ve read both his fiction novels and writing-advice books. Also on my to-read list by Quense: Moxie’s Problem and Self-Publishing a Book. - Past Lives by Christopher Kokoski
I’ve met the author and have copies of his other book Dark Halo. He also about to release the sequel to Past Lives which is called Present Killing. I follow his blog which is full of great advice for writers. - In Passing by JR Wirth
Since I designed the cover, I kind of want to read it. This paranormal novel just came out last week and it sounds interesting: two young people die tragically and are giving a second chance at life. - Queen of Pain by Michael D’Ambrosio
Technically, this isn’t out yet, but I want to read it because I read the first book in this series, Princess Pain. PP was pretty good, kind of rip-roaring, swash-buckling space opera. Queen of Pain (this may only be a working title), will be published by High Rock Press. - Wolves and the River of Stone by Eric Asher
I’m torn about this one. I loved so much about the first book –the characters, the writing style– but I also had some issues with it. But I’m willing to give the second book a chance.
