The Review Dilemma

Getting reviews as an indie author feels impossible.

I am excited to share my latest release, The Consortium Saga: Omnibus, with new readers. As a self-publishing author, reaching a wider audience is both rewarding and challenging. Gathering thoughtful reviews is part of the journey.

I recently ran two giveaways for my book: one on Goodreads and the other on LibraryThing. These efforts have often connected my work with enthusiastic readers who share valuable feedback. Still, there are a few hurdles to overcome:

  • Amazon.com will delete reviews if the algorithm thinks the reviewer is a friend or family member from social media.
  • An author must get a lot of reviews to get any kind of promotional attention on Amazon.com.
  • An author can’t give away free copies of ebooks for review. For me, I don’t mind giving away ebooks, but it violates the agreement to publish on self-publishing platforms.
  • An author can give away print copies, but an author can’t ask for reviews.

To celebrate the new year, I am excited to give away a print copy of The Consortium Saga: Omnibus to the first three readers who request it. Just email me at andrewmfriday.com.

Knowing that someone enjoys my book is deeply fulfilling.
