A Small Course Correction

I’ve realized this blog has been trying to do too much at once.

Over time, AndrewMFriday.com has housed writing advice, book reviews, author interviews, art history tangents, and updates on my own fiction projects. None of those things felt wrong individually, but together, they pulled the blog in too many directions. Instead of feeling focused, it started to feel scattered.

So I’m simplifying.

Going forward, this blog will be focused primarily on writing updates, where I am in my projects, what I’m working on, and the occasional reflection on process as it relates directly to my own work. I’ll likely be posting less often here, but when I do, the purpose will be clearer.

I’ve decided to post much less writing advice on here. There is so much out there already that’s good. I felt it was getting lost in the crowd. But it’s still archived on this blog for anyone who wants to see my writing craft “wisdom.” The best advice I can give is to just write. And write some more.

Book reviews aren’t going away; they’re just moving to a home that makes more sense. I’ll be posting speculative fiction reviews on Aenigma Scenes, which is now the dedicated space for science fiction, fantasy, and horror books. If you’re interested in those reviews, you can check out the Aenigma Scenes blog for written pieces or follow along on the Aenigma Scenes YouTube channel for video reviews and shorts.

I’ve also mentioned my interest in art history here before, and that, too, now lives in its own space. If you enjoy that side of my work, you can find it over at Armchair Art Share – Where Art Meets History, which is where I’m collecting essays, videos, and visual explorations of art and culture.

I would love it if you followed my new websites and YouTube channels, if you want.

As for my fiction, that remains the throughline of everything.

Right now, I’m finishing up the next two installments of my Consortium series:

  • Normous
Bandonn and his colleagues end up on a gigantic space station orbiting his homeworld of Spotov. A cat-and-mouse game ensues between them and the Disciples of the false Advocate. How can they get off the space station and down to the planet to reach their goal?
  • Parch
I have the rough draft of this story done, and I’m itching to get it out for you to read. I wrote a very rough draft of this next chapter in the Consortium series years ago, and it’s bringing up a lot of memories as I polish it.

After that, my big goal for 2026 is to finish Oblivion’s Hope, a novel that’s been waiting patiently in the wings while other stories demanded attention. By the way, it’s also set in the Consortium universe.

This shift is about giving each part of my work the space it deserves. Thank you for your patience as things evolved. I’m looking forward to sharing more focused updates as these projects near the finish line.
