Friday’s Findings: Write in Chunks. Small Chunks.

Look for those ten-minute gifts of time.

Although 10,000 is not a magic number, that’s the number of steps I try to get every day. I used to look for that big chunk of time to get to that mystical numeral. But some days, that just wasn’t possible.

By accident, I discovered I can get there easily by taking advantage of walking in small chunks of time. Ten, fifteen or twenty minutes before work. Walking during breaks at work. Use part of lunch to walk. By the time I leave work, I only have thirty minutes of walking to do at the gym on the treadmill. Sometimes less.

I’ve begun to apply the same technique to get to my daily work count.

One or two ten-minute word sprints before work. A few more throughout the day? That word count adds up like my steps.

Sure, I take advantage of large chunks of time for both steps and writing. Thirty or sixty minutes is a blessing, but I don’t look down on a ten minute gift of time here and there.
