In my post last Friday, I talked about writers should keep learning their craft. I thought about writing practices I had learned in the last five years. I took an inventory and came up with two lists:
- writing craft tips
- writing life tips
Today, I want to show you my writing craft tips. These are writing practices I’ve discovered in the last five years. I’ve written about them before. I came up with a bigger list, but these are my favorites.
So, here are five writing craft tips I’ve learned about fiction writing in the last five years:
- Give my characters interiority
- Develop my scenes with layering
- Tighten up my writing by using no filter words
- Plan my scenes with a bullet point outline
- Create my rough drafts with the scratch pad method
Next week, I’ll share writing life practices I’ve learned in the last five years.
