Friday’s Findings: Reading Websites

I’ve kept track of the books I’ve read on various book cataloging websites for years. It sounds geeky, but I have benefited from it in several ways. First, it has helped me keep track of what I’ve read, which is important to me. It also reminds me of the time in my life when I read a book. This is also important to me in case I want to reread it – I don’t like to reread a book before five years have passed.

Keeping track of what you read has more subjective benefits. I see a book on my list, and it reminds me of what was going on in my life when I read it. These “book catalog” websites are also a great way to meet other readers, especially those who read the same genres I do. And one last benefit of online book tracking: you can discover other books you want to read. I’ve found so many great books through others’ recommendations. And if I repeatedly see the same novel on various booklists, I can figure out if that book is worth reading.

Here is a list of book cataloging websites I use. Each has its spin on keeping track of what I read.
