And We’re Off: First Day of NaNoWriMo 2023

I belong to the writing community of Writing Mastery Academy online and I wrote this in the National Novel Writing Month discussion group this morning:

“I woke up about 10 minutes before midnight, and figured I should go ahead and do a couple of word sprints. I got about 800 words in one hour, which is not bad for me, considering I was making up names for fantasy towns and stuff like that. I decided to go with the whole brand new story instead of working on current WIPs. It was a good decision. I’m really into the spirit of national novel writing month this year. It reminds me of the early years when I had no idea what I was doing. I still have no idea what I’m doing, but it’s a lot easier to write without editing myself than it used to be. And during Preptober, I outlined my story with the save the cat beats. I have a list of scenes for each beat, but not too many details. I think that’s just right for NaNoWriMo. Going back to bed now and happy with my first day of NaNoWriMo 2023.”

So, that’s my first writing endeavor on the first day of NaNoWriMo. And there’s still 22 hours left. Not bad.
